to carry out the recommendations of the Commission, in which I concur, that the Hospital should be closely supervised, I consider that it is necessary to appoint an officer especially for that purpose. I have accordingly selected for the appointment D. J. C. Thomson, Superintendent of the Alice Memorial Hospital, whose charitable work among the Chinese has made him much respected by the Chinese community, and who on that account will be able to discharge his delicate duties with less friction than might otherwise be possible. Subject to sanction, I have appointed Dr Thomson provisionally a member of the Medical Staff of this Colony, to discharge the duties of Visiting Surgeon to the Tung Wa Hospital from the 1st January 1897 on the following terms: viz.
On $200 a month with private practice.
